Boston, Feb 1 (EFE/EPA).- The northeastern United States on Monday is suffering under the impact of a big winter storm that prompted a state of emergency in New York City and a snow emergency in Boston, with some areas of Massachusetts predicted to get up to 18 inches (46 cm) of snow. Huge amounts of snow came down all across the Eastern Seaboard on Thursday and continued falling on Friday as a severe winter storm known as a bomb cyclone sweeps through the east coast of the United States. Footage from Boston, Massachusetts shows snow ploughs battling to keep the roads clear in blizzard conditions. The entire East Coast is bracing itself for hurricane-force gales and sub-zero temperatures overnight.
Heavy rain causes flash flooding in the Kansas City metro area, making for dangerous driving conditions and temporarily suspending the downtown streetcar service. Jillian Kitchener reports.
