Security failure? Capitol siege by pro-Trump mob forces questions, ousters

Description

The violent siege of the Capitol by President Donald Trump’s supporters forced painful new questions across government Thursday about his fitness to remain in office for two more weeks and the ability of the police to secure the complex. The rampage that shocked the world and left the country on edge forced the resignations of three top Capitol security officials over the failure to stop the breach.

Following the violent attack on the US Capitol, federal officials launched the most extensive counterterrorism probe since September 11, 2001. Meanwhile, the heads of the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security--and the President himself--have remained essentially silent.
