Nablus, May 2 (EFE/EPA).- The early morning mist lifted over the West Bank city of Nablus in the valley below as a handful of Samaritans on Sunday walked through the poppies atop Mount Gerizim, where pilgrims had gathered to mark the end of their Passover.According to tradition, the Samaritans are descendants of the Jews who were not deported when the Assyrians conquered Israel in 722 BC.Samaritanism remains a close relation to Judaism, but its followers believe it to be the one true religion of the ancient Israelites.The Samaritan community numbers around 780 people, half of whom live in a village on Mount Gerizim, near the Palestinian city of Nablus, and the rest in Holon, near Tel Aviv. Nablus, Jun 20 (EFE/EPA).- Members of the Samaritan faith – which is closely linked to Judaism – gathered at sunrise on Tuesday atop their religion's holiest mountain in the northern West Bank, marking the Shavuot holiday. Shavuot festival which marks the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, seven weeks after the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt. The Samaritan community numbers around 820 people, many of whom live high above the Palestinian city of Nablus on Mount Gerizim, which they regard as the true Chosen Place, rather than Jerusalem's Mount Zion revered by the Jewish faithful.
