The United States makes history as the Senate confirms Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court. The upper chamber of Congress erupts in applause as the 51-year-old is approved by a vote of 53 to 47 that ensures white men will not be the majority on the nation's high court for the first time in 233 years. The leader of the SNP and Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, says "democracy is what is at stake" after the UK Supreme Court ruled against the unilaterial right of the Scottish parliament to call an independence referendum. A major Florida newspaper has issued an apology for previously endorsing incumbent Rep. Michael Waltz of the state's 6th district. Waltz was reelected to maintain his seat in the 2020 general election. He was among House Republicans who signed an amicus brief in support of Texas' lawsuit seeking to overturn the outcome of the general election's results. The US Supreme Court rejected the lawsuit on Friday. The Orlando Sentinel issued an apology on Friday, saying its editors were unaware that the democratically elected official was 'not committed to democracy.' Republicans in Texas faced another setback on Sunday in their attempts to stop votes from being counted. CNN reports the Texas Supreme Court denied a petition by a group of Republicans seeking to invalidate more than 120,000 drive-thru votes in Harris County. It's the second time in recent weeks the state Supreme Court has blocked attempts to dismantle drive-thru voting there. Curbside voting in Harris County is limited to voters with a disability and is located at all polling sites. However, ten of Harris County's 120 early voting sites are drive-thru locations. The drive-thru voting locations are open to all voters. The latest state and federal challenges argue that drive-thru voting violates the US Constitution, which says state legislatures decide how elections are run.
