Shireen Abu Akleh killing: International calls grow for independent probe

A renounced Al Jazeera journalist was killed last week during an Israeli raid in the West Bank. Shireen Abu Akhleh was wearing a flak jacket with the word "press" clearly marked. Israelis and Palestinians have traded blame over who fired the fatal shot, while Israel has opened an investigation into heavy-handed police tactics used during Abu Akleh's funeral procession, which almost caused her coffin to fall to the ground. UN says Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh killed by Israeli fire

The United Nations says that its findings show that the shot that killed Al Jazeera TV journalist Shireen Abu Akleh on May 11 was fired by Israeli forces. The Palestinian-American journalist, who was wearing a vest marked "Press" and a helmet, was killed while covering an Israeli army operation in Jenin camp in the northern West Bank.
