Three explosions at a high school in western Kabul killed at least six people and injured a number of students, Afghan security and health officials said. Many residents in the neighbourhood belong to the Shia Hazara community, an ethnic and religious minority frequently targeted by Sunni militant groups, including Islamic State. It is what had been feared. At least two explosions near Kabul airport late Thursday afternoon. All day long, Western powers had been warning of an imminent terror threat. The apparent targeting of the airport comes just as evacuations are starting to wind down ahead of an August 31st deadline. Special edition.
“The terrorist has been arrested, (he is) 19 years old. A firearm is registered in his name. Other accomplices haven’t been established, an investigation is underway,” Rustam Minnikhanov said after visiting the school, adding that security had been restored.
