More than two million people have fled Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion less than two weeks ago, UNHCR spokesperson Shabia Mantoo says, while the International Red Cross describes an "apocalyptic" situation in the ukrainian city of Mariupol.
The UN's refugee agency says in Ukraine 14 million people have either been displaced or have left the country, while conflicts have forced over one hundred million people to flee their homes around the world.
Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, says 1.1 million of Ukrainian citizens crossed the state border to enter the country since the Russian invasion began on February 24.
More than four million Ukrainians have now fled the country to escape Russia's war, United Nations figures showed Wednesday. UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, said 4,019,287 Ukrainians had fled across the country's borders since the February 24 invasion, with more than 2.3 million having headed west into Poland. According to Polish authorities, Poland has seen over 2.2 million Ukrainian refugees crossing into its border since the conflict in its neighboring country started on Feb 24.
