In tonight's edition: The trial over the murder of Burkina Faso's former president Thomas Sankara begins more than 30 years after he was gunned down. In Mozambique, there are warnings that the mass displacement caused by years of violent islamist insurgency is leaving communities around Cabo Delgado province with little health services.
Leadership elections for the Pan-African parliament descend into chaos as lawmakers brawl over whether the presidency should be rotated by region. "No rotation, no elections", several lawmakers chanted, expressing a demand for regional rotation of leadership positions. At one point some MPs demanded the police be called in. The parliament sits for three weeks twice a year at its headquarters in Midrand, located between the South African capital Pretoria and Johannesburg.
In tonight's edition: In Burkina Faso, judges have ruled that the former president Blaise Compaoré must stand trial for his role in the assassination of Thomas Sankara who he overthrew in a coup d'état in 1987. And a Tuareg leader in Mali has been shot dead in the capital Bamako. Sidi Brahim Ould Sidati was a key figure in a 2015 peace accord. And a major step forward for the protection of women and children in Gabon, as customary marriages are finally recognised by the state.
