EU chief Ursula von der Leyen says the EU will impose a gradual Russian oil ban, as Brussels unveils new sanctions to punish Russia for invading Ukraine. British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss calls on the entire G7 to ban Russia oil imports, saying the world's leading economies should "go further and faster" in punishing Moscow and President Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says the UK has sanctioned officials running the Arctic penal colony where Russian opposition figure and critic of President Vladmir Putin Alexei Navalny died, saying Britian and its allies were considering "all options to hold Russia and Putin to account". "He died for a cause to which he dedicated his whole life - freedom - and to return home knowing that Putin had already tried to have him killed is one of the most courageous acts of our time," he tells members of parliament. Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga calls off demonstrations planned for Monday and said his party would sit down for dialogue with the government after two weeks of protests. "We stand down our demonstrations for Monday, that is tomorrow, April 3, 2023. But in doing so, we want to emphasise that the right to assemble, to demonstrate, petition, and speak are iron-clad as provided for in our constitution," the veteran opposition leader tells reporters.
