Forced to resign three years ago in the face of a litany of corruption scandals, embattled former South African president Jacob Zuma is back in court in a graft case dating back more than two decades, where he faces 16 charges of fraud, graft and racketeering relating to a 1999 purchase of fighter jets, patrol boats and military gear from five European arms firms for 30 billion rand -- equal to almost $5.0 billion at the time. A Moscow court throws out jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny's appeal against a nine-year prison sentence that he and his allies condemn as politically motivated. Moscow City Court ruled to "leave the sentence without changes" and for it to enter into force immediately, meaning that Navalny will be transferred to a strict regime prison colony to serve out his term, after he was found guilty in March of embezzlement and contempt of court.
