Weight loss apps were one of the first apps to start selling when smartphones came on the market. Today, there are literally thousands of them available. However, they vary so much in quality, price, and focus that it can be difficult to pick the best one for you. Nutritionist Samantha Cassetty says the best apps support a variety of healthy foods, in balanced amounts, that are right for your needs. Free apps, like Lose It!, can help you track your food intake. However, Cassetty says they're unlikely to lead to any real, lasting weight loss. Instead, she suggests focusing on developing healthy habits, like regular exercise and increasing the number of fruits and vegetables in your diet. According to Business Insider, the apps Noom, Weight Watchers, My Fitness Pal, and the free MyNetDiary do a great job at helping you meet some or all of these goals.

Google Play Music has launched a free, ad-supported version of its streaming service that allows users to browse a massive library of 30 million songs and listen to curated playlists for many occasions. The service is currently available online and as an app for iOS and Android devices. Google has been offering an ad-free subscription version of Google Play Music for some time, allowing listeners to take their music offline and use background features for music videos on YouTube.
A new app launched by the Washington State Department of Health. It was developed in conjunction with the University of Washington. The app seeks to notify users if they have been exposed to COVID-19. It is a voluntary, data-secure app and is seen as a complementary tool for testing and contact tracing. The app launched Monday as COVID-19 cases remained high in Washington state. State hospitals are nearly running out of capacity, according to reports at Business Insider.
