New York to offer $100 incentive to boost vaccination campaign

New York, USA, Jul 28 (EFE).- New York City will offer a $100 incentive to people who get a Covid-19 vaccine starting Friday, mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday.“Starting on Friday, (…) at city run vaccination sites, when you get your first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, you will get a 100 dollar incentive,” de Blasio told a press conference.The measure aims to boost the pace of inoculation in the Big Apple, which has slowed in recent weeks, leaving many residents unvaccinated and vulnerable to the Delta variant.“Not only do you get the $100, you then qualify to be able to do everything else that is wonderful in this city, including the amazing concerts that are coming up,” the mayor added, urging vaccination was the only way forward.New York has previously offered numerous incentives to encourage people to get inoculated, ranging from a $5 million dollar prize to free hamburgers and fries.Some 8.3 million people in New York, 54.4 percent of the city’s population, have received the full course of the Covid-19 vaccine, official data shows.On Monday, the mayor announced the city would expand its Covid-19 mandate to require all municipal employees to get vaccinated or get tested on a weekly basis starting September.FOOTAGE BY ALBA VIGARAY.
