Spanish presidency minister links reception of Spanish exiles in France with that of Afghans

Description

Paris, Aug 25 (EFE/EPA).- Spain's Minister of Presidency and Historical Memory, Félix Bolaños, on Tuesday linked the reception by France of hundreds of thousands of Spanish Republican exiles in 1939 with the current arrival of Afghan refugees in both countries. The values of "solidarity and defense of human rights" that Spain, France and the whole of Europe have shown towards the evacuation of Afghan civilians "are the same values that made France take in thousands of Spanish exiles who had to flee from a dictatorship," he said. And it is a reason for you and also for me to come here as a representative of the Government of Spain to remember that moment and to tell you that the Government of Spain does not forget you.- They (the soldiers) wrote a glorious chapter in the fight against fascism and Nazism. They had fought it before in the Spanish civil war. And the Spanish war was nothing more than a prologue to the World War II.- (This is) to remember individual tracks like today as well as your ancestors'. The exile pushed the recovery of democracy, helped install the democratic value as well as the respect for democracy and human rights to the entire globe.
