Cannes, Jul 17 (EFE).- The 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival drew to a close Saturday as France's Julia Ducournau made history by becoming the second woman ever to receive the top prize.B-ROLL OF THE RED CARPET OF CANNES FILM FESTIVAL, IN CANNES, FRANCE.
"We were aiming to do a wild, entertaining movie where we had a content that we thought was important, where the audience should discuss afterwards. (...) I'm very very happy that the jury acknowledged that", says Swedish director Ruben Östlund, a surprise winner of the Palme d'Or at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, earning a place among the select group of directors who have won the festival's top prize twice. Cannes, Jul 18 (EFE/EPA).-France's Julia Ducournau made history here Saturday, becoming only the second woman ever to receive the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival as the 74th edition of the event drew to a close.But the official announcement of Ducournau's "Titane" as the recipient of the Palme d'Or was something of an anti-climax because the jury president, Spike Lee, let slip the identity of the winning film at the start of the ceremony. I am the second woman to receive this award and I thought a lot about Jane Campion tonight. I wondered what it would be like for her to be the first. And I must say that the fact that I'm the second suggested that this is a movement in progress. I am the second so there will be the third, the fourth, the fifth.- It is never easy to be free. I believe that you have to fight all the time, no matter what happens, no matter what the circumstances. Freedom, unfortunately, is not something you acquired. And we are talking about the Cannes festival, of course, we are not talking about other things. I think freedom can only come from within. It is a struggle, a constant struggle.2.
