When is the DOJ’s antitrust suit against Google will go to trial? According to CNBC and Gizmodo, it looks like the trail will be held late 2023. Google and US District Judge Amit Mehta agreed in a Friday status hearing that the trial was on track to get rolling in “late 2023.” Mehta marked down September 12, 2023 as the tentative start date. Why so much time? The two sides need to iron out that wrinkle before the trial.
Employees of a call center contractor for Amazon are complaining of dangerous working conditions in the city of Cebu, in the Philippines. Business Insider reports workers say they're being forced to make an impossible choice: either become infected with COVID-19--or starve. The contractor, Teleperformance, provides call center services for Amazon's Ring video doorbell products. Dozens of the call center's employees have developed flu-like symptoms, which are characteristic of COVID-19 infection. As public transport has been shut down in Cebu, workers were sleeping on the floor at work so as not to arrive late for their shifts. Workers say that workstations aren't properly sanitized, and when shifts overlap, or when staff sleep on the floor, it's difficult to socially distance. Workers allege that cleaners come through sporadically and when they do, it's with a bucket of water and a towel. People are scared because we don't know who has it and who doesn't have it. Chinese tech company Ehang presented their FlyTaxi concept at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Tuesday which transforms a quadcopter into a giant drone taxi that shuttles single human passengers over dense urban environments. The system will be automated, so passengers will just input the destination and enjoy the ride, although it will be possible to drive it manually.
One Chinese delivery service has found a mesmerising high-tech way to reduce on labour and maximise on efficiency, putting scores of robots to work to sort over 200,000 parcels and packages a day. Chinese delivery service Shentong Express Tracking employs dozens of yellow-topped robots on fixed tracks in their vast storerooms to pick up and drop off parcels to their proper locations based on data provided by the parcel barcode.
