The Stella Vie, touted as the world's first solar-powered family car, was unveiled on Wednesday by Eindhoven University. The award-winning fully solar vehicle is the brainchild of Lightyear, Eindhoven University of Technology's "solar team." The car's ability to run in any city with an electric grid, means that it does not need any special infrastructure, long an obstacle for electric cars. Additionally, the car features independent in-wheel motors for each wheel, large indoor space for family use and large storage space due to the absence of a central engine.
This odd-looking solar powered vehicle was built by one elderly Chinese man, who had only one goal in mind. 64-year-old Wang Yongzhi built the car so that he and his wife Zhang Shuyan could travel through China on a budget. The solar-powered vehicle can cover a distance of over 120 miles with good sunlight and reach a speed of around 30 miles per hour, but the two-seater can also use gas as a backup when the weather is bad.

Belarussian Sergei Rusakov converted his aging Citroen AX into a homemade electric car. The Minsk resident, who has no formal training or education, ordered the necessary parts after researching the technology himself, and installed the parts into his dilapidated vehicle in his own garage.
Nissan Solar power gives Electric Vehicles New Charge
Eatron Technologies and WMG, University of Warwick have developed an innovative new approach to estimating accurately an electric vehicle battery’s remaining useful life, helping to unlock additional performance, greater range, and increased levels of safety.Developed with funding from the Faraday Institution, the collaborative project (known as VIPER – Validated & Integrated Platform for battery Remaining useful life) has combined WMG’s advanced electrochemical models with Eatron’s cloud battery management and integration expertise to deliver Remaining Useful Life (RUL) estimates that are more than 90% accurate.The condition and performance of a battery changes as the cells within it age over time. If this natural degradation is not monitored closely, it can lead to cell failures with serious consequences. Traditional RUL estimates often rely on simple voltage-based analytics that may miss complex failure conditions, potentially risking the safety of consumers, while others that err on the side of caution may result in perfectly healthy battery packs being unnecessarily rendered unusable.By accurately predicting a battery’s RUL, it becomes possible to extract the maximum performance and longevity from it, without compromising safety.The solution developed by Eatron and WMG can be embedded in an automotive-grade battery management system (BMS) or deployed across a cloud-based platform, a concept that is particularly appealing for fleet applications.In addition, when an automotive battery is eventually redeployed into its second life, it can be accompanied by an accurate picture of its health in the form of a battery passport that negates the need for expensive testing and increases the breadth of its operating window.

The brand’s latest battery management technology delivers a WLTP range of 412km (256 miles), and fast charging to deliver a 10-80% charge time of approximately 45 minutes. The compact architecture has also allowed for more freedom in packaging with all components housed over the front axle.To set it apart as a battery electric vehicle, the e:Ny1 has a sophisticated character defined by a smooth, flowing design concept. The sleek, expressive headlights are neatly integrated into the bold face, which incorporates a clever rotating grille panel that provides access to the car’s charging port behind. Integrated taillights are connected by a full width LED light bar across the tailgate, while the range of standout paint options includes an eye-catching new Aqua Topaz colour.
