Mazda talks Multi-Solution Approach - Strategy

Description

Mazda is committed to drastically reducing carbon emissions – by 2050, Mazda aims to be carbon neutral across all fields of operation. Electrifying vehicle powertrains will be one important factor in achieving this goal. But as Mazda believes the internal combustion engine (ICE) will still be powering the vast majority of cars in the coming years, full electrification can only be one aspect of a sustainable electrification strategy. Another important pillar will be improving the efficiency and performance of ICEs – through better combustion efficiency, environmentally friendly fuels like e-fuels, as well as electrification. Mazda is therefore committed to having all new models fully or partially electrified by 2030, delivering a vast range of different solutions for all individual mobility demands and regional conditions.

  • Mazda MX 30 Battery Concept and Multi Solution Approach

Mazda will be bringing its first all-electric vehicle to market soon in the form of the MX-30 SUV, which made its debut at the 2019 Tokyo auto show. The subcompact-sized crossover has a sharp exterior design with a coupe-like roofline and rear-hinged back doors similar to those found on the BMW i3 electric car. Many details are still hazy, but Mazda says the SUV will come with a 35.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor. Pre-orders have already started for European buyers and we expect the MX-30 to go on sale in the United States sometime in late 2020 or early 2021.

  • Mazda talks Electrification - Strategy

The revolutionary Skyactiv engine line-up, first introduced in 2012, already significantly improves fuel efficiency, without compromising the joy of driving. Mazda will continue to improve the efficiency in ICEs and explore new avenues, such as alternative biofuels, to further improve the carbon footprint of vehicle powertrains. Combined with an efficient and suitable electrification solution, the ICE performance can be enhanced even further. In fact, electrified ICE models will make up 75 percent of Mazda’s production by 2030, while fully battery electric vehicles (BEVs) will comprise the other 25 percent.
