NATO defence ministers on Wednesday tasked military commanders to come up with plans to bolster the alliance's eastern flank after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said. FRANCE 24's International Affairs Commentator Douglas Herbert explains.
The alliance will deploy more ships and fighter jets to reinforce "deterrence and defence," while the EU will provide Ukraine with a new financial assistance package worth €1.2 billion.
NATO allies will boost the number of their high readiness forces to "well over 300,000" as they bulk up their defences in response to Russia's war on Ukraine, according to alliance chief Jens Stoltenberg. SOUNDBITE
