Porsche 911 Sally Special - one-of-a-kind piece for a good cause

Description

Porsche and Pixar Animation Studios have unveiled a very special Porsche inspired by one of the most popular 911s: Sally Carrera, the famous car from Disney and Pixar’s animated film Cars. Like Sally Carrera, the 911 Sally Special is one of a kind. There will only be one 911 Sally Special – and it’s the first time that Pixar has supported such a project. The one-off car will be auctioned by RM Sotheby's on Saturday, 20 August 2022 as part of Monterey Car Week in California. Auction proceeds will be donated to two charities. A portion of the proceeds will benefit young women through a donation to Girls Inc. The second portion will go to USA for UNHCR, an organisation that supports refugees from Ukraine.

  • Porsche 911 Sally Special sells for record $3.6 million at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction

The Porsche 911 Sally Special sold at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction on Saturday evening for a record $3.6 million (auction hammer price). In the charged atmosphere of the packed bidding hall, the one-of-one car attracted significant interest, with the final winning offer coming from a telephone bidder. The price was a record for a new Porsche sold at auction, according to the auction house. The sale reunited members of the original Cars team who created both the car in the Disney and Pixar film and the life-size Sally Carrera, based on a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera. That team included actress Bonnie Hunt, the voice of Sally Carrera, Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise at Pixar Animation Studios, and Bob Pauley, who, as Production Designer for Cars, sketched Sally for the first time 20 years ago. They were joined by Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), and key members of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur’s Sonderwunsch team including Alexander Fabig and Boris Apenbrink.

  • Special Porsche 911 begins its journey of exploration

For approaching 60 years, the Porsche 911 has been pushed to extremes on both the track and on the open road. Now, a fresh chapter is being written; a unique pair of experimental 911 sports cars are being tested where there are no roads, where the air is thin, where the temperature is far below freezing and even plant life can’t survive.A team, led by endurance racer and adventurer Romain Dumas, has set out to explore the limits of the 911 and have opted for one of the toughest places on earth in which to begin the adventure – on the sheer slopes of Ojos del Salado, Chile, the highest volcano in the world. The first test of the team and the cars has taken place. And, as a consequence, a Porsche 911 became one of very few vehicles of any kind to have ever reached such an extreme altitude.Exploring up to 6,007 meters (19,708 feet), the 911, with Romain Dumas at the wheel, took on bolder strewn gradients as well as ice fields that tested the abilities of both the car and the team in temperatures hovering 30 degrees Celsius below freezing and with half the available oxygen in the air compared to at sea level. Impassable walls of seasonal snow and ice high up near the summit provided the upper limits of the test, which provided a tantalizing glimpse of what the cars are capable of in the right conditions. For now though, the test is complete – and the team elated by the experience.

  • Schauffele’s special premiere at the Porsche European Open

Xander Schauffele driving around Hamburg in a 911 Carrera S. Here is what he said: “We golfers should always focus on the next shot, but I did actually get distracted by the Taycan. It looks really good, I’d love to have one. I also fully back Porsche’s e-mobility efforts. At the moment, my foundation, which will basically concentrate on environmental issues, is at the planning stage. I can hardly wait, even if it’s probably going to take a while, to sit in my own Taycan.”

  • Porsche like in the good old days. Hand- and legwork in the 911 R

A car for purists who want to have complete control over their vehicle. Pure, raw manual shifting.Nothing against TipTronic, lots of comfort and gliding along smoothly but fast in a Porsche. Many enjoy it. It's completely understandable. But there are also purists who want to feel their car, who want to shift gears manually the traditional way, who want to experience the road and hear the typical growl of a naturally-aspirated Porsche six-cylinder boxer engine. The 911 R is for them. What a car! Old school, yet powerfully modern. How? For Porsche engineers, this was a project of honor, a project for drivers who are the center of attention, a project that is a salute to sports car culture. Deep in the rear of the 911 R sits the high-rev concept engine. The unit achieves an impressive maximum rotation speed of 8,500 rpm. The Boxer is able to draw 500 hp out of its four liters of displacement. Its maximum torque: 460 Nm at 6,250 rpm. But please ... don't even think about buying one of the only 991 limited-edition 911s. Because - we're very sorry - they sold out a long time ago.
