On 21 August 2015, gunman Ayoub El-Khazzani opened fire with an assault rifle, shot and wounded three people on a Thalys train travelling between Amsterdam and Paris before the assailant was overpowered by passengers. Tributes got underway Satruday to the 86 people killed in Nice's Bastille Day truck massacre, three months on from the jihadist atrocity in the southern resort city. The driver, a 31-year-old French citizen of Tunisian origin, was killed after police shot him through the windshield.
