UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says that Russia and Ukraine's signing of a deal with the United Nations and Turkey on resuming grain shipments would "bring relief for developing countries on the edge of bankruptcy". He adds that the accord "opens a path for significant volumes of commercial food exports from three key Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea: Odessa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhny." IMAGES
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan calls for Russia not to be "marginalised" in talks aimed at reviving a key deal to export Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea. "No process that marginalises Russia on the Black Sea grain initiative will be viable," Erdogan tells reporters after the close of the G20 summit in New Delhi. He also announced a forthcoming meeting on the issue between representatives from Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations, without specifying a precise date or location. SOUNDBITE
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken says Russia 'should not have' opted out of the grain export deal. "This should be restored as quickly as possible," he tells reporters at a press conference. "The bottom line is, it's unconscionable," Blinken said. SOUNDBITE
Turkey's President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announces the extension of the Black Sea grain deal that allowed the export of Ukrainian grain to resume following Russia's invasion. "This agreement" he says, "is of vital importance in terms of global food supply". Ukraine's infrastructure minister, Oleksandr Kubrakov, tweeted that the deal has been extended for 120 days. The Razoni, the ship carrying the first shipment of grain exported from Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on 24 February, crosses the Bosphorus "on its way to Lebanon", the Turkish defence ministry said.
