Timelapse images show the Milky Way galaxy glimmering in the night sky as it eerily lights up an abandoned and destroyed amusement park on the frontline between regime forces and rebel fighters, in the town of al-Nayrab, in Syria's northwestern Idlib region.

Images show people standing amidst the rubble of a house that was destroyed by a Russian air strike that killed seven people, four of them children, in the Jisr al-Shughur countryside of northern Syria. Russia, which did not comment immediately on the raid, is a main backer of President Bashar al-Assad's regime. With Russian and Iranian support, Damascus clawed back much of the ground lost in the early stages of Syria's conflict, which erupted in 2011 when the government brutally repressed pro-democracy protests. The last pocket of armed opposition to the regime includes large swathes of Idlib province and parts of the neighbouring Aleppo, Hama and Latakia provinces. IMAGES
In a cherry field in the town of Juzif in the Jebel al-Zawiyah mountains of Syria's rebel-held Idlib province, farmers pick cherries as their harvest marks a major setback due to this year's cold winter and the ongoing 11-year civil war. For that, "most farmers have switched from cherry trees to other seasonal trees", says Syrian farmer Yousef al-Nemer.
In Syria's northwestern province of Idlib, by the Turkish border, the poppies are in full bloom as Spring brings colour to the site of some of the war-torn country's fiercest fighting.
