Images show air defence intercepting nighttime drone attacks and smoke rising above the city in Lviv, Ukraine, the day after the attacks. According to Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovyi three warehouses were destroyed and one person was killed. Ukraine says its air defence systems had downed 27 Shahed drones launched overnight in Russia's latest aerial barrage. "A total of 30 attack UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) were launched... As a result of combat work, 27 Shaheds were shot down by air defence units," the Ukrainian air force said on social media. IMAGES

Footage released by the US Air Force, shot on 14 March 2023, shows two Russian Su-27 aircraft flying close to a US MQ-9 unmanned aircraft over the Black Sea. The US Air Force has said the Russian jets conducted "an unsafe and unprofessional intercept", dumping fuel on the aircraft and striking its propeller, forcing Washington to bring down the MQ-9 Reaper drone in international waters. Moscow denied its aircraft had damaged the unmanned drone and said on Wednesday that it would try to retrieve the wreckage and also warned that it would react "proportionately" to any future US "provocations" as tensions. The Red Cross demands a halt to all military operations around a Russian-held nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, warning the consequences of a strike could be "catastrophic". "It is high time to stop playing with fire and instead take concrete measures to protect this facility and others like it from any military operations," Robert Mardini, director general of the ICRC, tells reporters in Kyiv.
