The French government on Monday expressed concern over a new wave of Covid-19 that has engulfed large parts of the country, introducing limited new restrictions that will see the temoprary closure of nightclubs.
There are fears the French overseas territory of Guadeloupe may be on the verge of a large-scale social conflict amid violent protests against Covid restrictions that have prompted authorities to impose a nationwide curfew. FRANCE 24's International Affairs Editor Philip Turle explains.
The situation remains "very difficult" in Guadeloupe, where unrest erupted last week over Covid-19 curbs imposed by Paris, despite Prime Minister Jean Castex's call for calm in France's overseas territory, said the French interior minister.
