World Chess Championship runner-up Sergey Karjakin gave himself an "A-" on his overall performance while speaking in an exclusive interview in the aftermath of the World Chess Championship in New York, following a 19 day match against Norwegian chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen. Karjakin became a contender for Carlsen's chess crown following his wins at the Candidates Tournament 2016 in Moscow, but the Norwegian managed to retain his position as world number one.
The world's greatest chess players arrived in Berlin to compete for their chance to reach the final in the world's biggest battle of wits. The opening ceremony for the World Chess Candidates Tournament took place in Berlin on Friday. The ceremony was held at the Kuhlhaus Berlin, where the tournament will play out over the next two weeks, starting on March 10 and will last until March 28.
One toddler named Misha Osipov wants to become a chess grandmaster, and he's started training with the best of the best. Little Misha Osipov played against Russian grandmaster Eugene Vasyukov in Moscow on Thursday to hone his skills, and the elderly grandmaster sees great potential in the boy, who is now just 4 years old. The first Black woman to win the title of Miss Mississippi USA has been crowned Miss USA. Asya Branch, a student at the University of Mississippi and Booneville native, was crowned Miss USA on Monday. According to CNN, Branch will go on to represent the US in the Miss Universe pageant. The beauty pageant was originally scheduled for spring 2020 but, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Miss Universe Organization that runs Miss USA had to follow coronavirus protocols for the pageant. Contestants wore masks when they were offstage and audience members were told to wear masks indoors.
