The third typhoon to hit the storm-battered Philippines in as many weeks causes major flooding in Manila on Thursday.
Typhoon Rai, the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines this year, ravaged the southern and central regions of the archipelago, knocking out communications and electricity in many areas, ripping off roofs and toppling concrete power poles.
A powerful typhoon left at least 19 people dead, knocked down power and communications in entire provinces and wrought widespread destruction mostly in the central Philippines, officials said Saturday.
Manila residents return to their homes covered in mud after flash floods inundated their communities, destroying their belongings. Torrential rain dumped by Typhoon Vamco -- the third powerful storm to hit the country in as many weeks -- inundated low-lying areas of Manila and surrounding provinces.
Several main roads and low-lying villages in Manila were flooded after typhoon Vamco brought heavy rains in the Philippine capital, cutting off power lines and triggering evacuation efforts.
