A coffee table that can be turned into a complete computer workstation is one of the winners of the 120th edition of Paris' Concours Lepine, which for over a century has been awarding prizes for innovative inventions.
In France, the municipal elections are held every six years. But the most closely-watched race is the vote to win the keys to Paris City Hall. There have been some surprises in the race so far, as the president's chosen candidate Benjamin Griveaux was forced to bow out after a sex video scandal. Leading in the polls is the incumbent mayor of Paris, the left-leaning Anne Hidalgo. But not far behind her in another well-known figure in French politics, the right-leaning Rachida Dati. We take a closer look at who else is in the running and what’s at stake.
A firefighting drone, a 4x4 electric scooter, a women's urinal and a "connected" lifejacket are just some of the inventions vying for the top prize in the 118th edition of the Lepine competition, held at at the Paris Fair. More than 500 inventors were vying for the prize, to be announced on May 7.
This year's Golden Leopard went to Brazilian drama 'Rule 34' from director Julia Murat, in a ceremony which put women on top.
"CODA," a heartwarming movie about a deaf family with a hearing daughter, won a landmark best picture prize at the Oscars on Sunday, in a ceremony overshadowed by best-actor winner Will Smith's slapping of presenter Chris Rock.
