Ferrari 75th Anniversary

Description

Enzo Ferrari first opened his small factory in Maranello in 1947. In the early post-war years, the mass car market was just about to break wide open, but he made a deliberate decision to go against the grain, pouring his experience instead into his dream of building racing cars. He spared neither human nor financial capital to develop the 125 S, a car that was a manifesto not just for technological innovation but also Ferrari’s own racing ambitions, and laid the foundations for a long story of victories. Since then, a huge community of fans, clients and, of course, employees has developed around the Ferrari marque, all of whom are united by a shared sense of belonging and passion, spanning all ages and nationalities.

  • Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo - Maranello’s first dedicated virtual motor sports concept car

The Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo, a closed-wheel single-seater, is the first Ferrari concept car created specifically for the virtual motor sport world. The car’s design has its roots firmly in Maranello’s unparalleled racing tradition, with the number 75 on its flanks reflecting that noble heritage. The launch of the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo in fact brings the 75th anniversary celebrations of when the marque’s first-ever racing car, the 125 S, exited the iconic factory gates in 1947, to an official close. To mark that occasion, this model not only signifies an important step for Ferrari in the virtual environment, where it will inspire new generations of passionate drivers and enthusiasts, but also redefines the company’s stylistic language. It represents a futuristic design manifesto for Ferrari’s road and racing cars, embodying the maximum expression of formal beauty and innovation, and providing a stimulus for both the engineers and drivers (real and virtual) of tomorrow. The Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo’s design was penned by the Ferrari Centro Stile under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, and takes its inspiration directly from legendary 1960s and 70s’ Ferrari Sports Prototypes, which enjoyed huge success in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans (won by the Prancing Horse a total of nine times), and the 24 Hours of Daytona. Featuring dramatic proportions and futuristic lines, the car succeeds in its stylistic mission by effortlessly embodying the DNA of masterpieces such as the 330 P3 and 512 S, simultaneously paying homage to the Prancing Horse’s glorious racing history and affording a tantalising glimpse of the future evolution of closed-wheel racing cars.

The anniversary is reflected in the celebratory logo, alongside the Italian flag, which has been a long-time feature on Ferrari Formula 1 cars. The F1-75 has a completely new look, as a result of the Maranello engineers’ interpretation of the new technical regulations that come into force this year. The design phase was tackled with an innovative, unconventional approach. Among the elements that stand out, the lower nose, and the bodywork where particular attention has been paid to the packaging of the PU and its ancillary parts in order to achieve the best possible aerodynamic performance. This year also marks the return of ground effect after a forty-year absence, while the Pirelli tyres have increased in size to 18 inches, as from this season.Once again, driving duties fall to the pairing that was first seen last year, namely the Monegasque Charles Leclerc and the Spaniard Carlos Sainz. Scuderia Ferrari will also be able to count on the services of Antonio Giovinazzi and Mick Schumacher as reserve drivers. Robert Shwartzman takes on the role of test driver and will take part in two Friday free practice sessions during the course of the season.
