Audi Sport drivers Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts clinched their third consecutive Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup drivers’ title for Team WRT. At the Valencia circuit in Spain, the Belgian duo took the title with one race to spare, before winning the final Sprint Cup race this year – their fifth overall sprint victory in the 10-race season. Team WRT also won the overall Sprint Cup teams’ title.
Audi Sport customer racing experienced a strong start in the European SRO racing series with its customer teams. Within the total of 112 GT race cars in three classes, no fewer than 25 Audi R8 LMS were on the grids at Imola. While Team WRT won the GT3 endurance race, LP Racing and PK Carsport shared the victories in the GT2 European Series. Team Fullmotorsport and its drivers lead the Am standings in the GT4 European Series.
After the pandemic forced a postponement of the IGTC final race from December 4, 2021, to February 5, 2022, Audi Sport customer racing concluded the 2021 season with another title success: in 2016, 2017 and 2018, Audi Sport was already the best manufacturer in the only global GT3 racing series, and now the company has left four other sports car brands behind by winning the title at Kyalami.
Quadruple championship success in the ADAC GT Masters: At the season finale at the Nürburgring, Audi Sport driver Christopher Mies and his teammate Ricardo Feller secured the title in the drivers’ classification. Their team Montaplast by Land-Motorsport won the ADAC GT Masters Team classification. Ricardo Feller was also delighted with the title in the Junior classification. The Trophy title went to Florian Spengler, another Audi driver.
Stig Blomqvist, 1984 World Rally Champion, and Lucas di Grassi, 2017 Formula E Champion, swap cockpits in San Remo and test the cars that led them to success: the legendary Audi Sport quattro S1 and the Audi RS e-tron GT.
