Blue Origin successfully carried out a test of the escape system of its New Shephard rocket, in the west Texas desert on Wednesday. The spacecraft is intended for use by civilians wishing to travel to the edge of space.The system was devised to bring passengers safely back down to earth if a failure occurs inflight. Blue Origin is set to offer space tourism services by 2018.
Blue Origin, the company founded by Amazon's Jeff Bezos, releases video showing its new rocket taking off and then landing safely in West Texas. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
Star Trek's William Shatner says his voyage into space on board a Blue Origin rocket was the "most profound experience I can imagine." "I'm so filled with emotion about what just happened. It's extraordinary," he tells Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos in remarks after landing. IMAGES
