Climate anxiety: the young activists turning fear into action


From Bangladesh to Britain to Nigeria, many young campaigners on the front lines of the global fight against climate change face a new problem: the impact the crisis is having on their mental health. As thousands of delegates converge at the COP26 summit in Glasgow to discuss ways to tackle the environmental emergency, AFP spoke with three youth activists around the world who spoke candidly of their experience of climate anxiety and how they are turning these fears for the future into action.

    Young people's hopes of saving the planet from climate catastrophe are the subject of a large event in Milan at the moment. The Youth4Climate summit is aiming to summarise ideas from youngsters ahead of the COP26 summit next month. One of those attending is Neeshad Shafi from Doha, Qatar.   • Climate change anxiety: Young people very worried over global warming crisis

    A new global survey illustrates the depth of anxiety many young people are feeling about climate change. Nearly 60% of young people approached said they felt very worried or extremely worried. The survey across 10 countries was led by Bath University in collaboration with five universities. It claims to be the biggest of its kind, with responses from 10,000 people aged between 16 and 25.
