French Astronaut Thomas Pesquet returns to earth, land in Kazakhstan
It's an immense moment of pride for the whole team as French astronaut Thomas Pesquet and his crewmates return to Earth. The four astronauts splashed down successfully off the coast of Florida in a SpaceX capsule. It marks the end of Pesquet's six-month mission in space, where he became the first ever French astronaut to command the International Space Station. We spoke to his colleague and friend Rémi Canton, who led the mission for the CNES, the French space studies agency.
After months of planning, Thomas Pesquet will be able to stretch his legs in space this afternoon, when he steps outside the International Space Station.
The ESA’s Pangaea project is designed to equip astronauts with essential geology training so they can execute manned missions to the Moon and Mars.
After 199 days in the International Space Station, French astronaut Thomas Pesquet landed in Cologne on Monday and said he was looking forward to returning to the comforts of Earth: "A bit of Earth food, with a good night's sleep in a good bed."
