"Most of the problems we are facing today are due to the fact that there are unvaccinated people," Prime Minister Mario Draghi says as Italy tightens rules for those who are not jabbed. New restrictions came into force Monday prohibiting those unvaccinated from entering restaurants, gyms, swimming pools, theatres, cinemas, sports events or public transport, with only those who recently recovered from Covid-19 exempt.
The latest restriction comes as COVID-19 infections are soaring past 100,000 per day in the southern European country.
Italy tightened curbs on Monday on people still not vaccinated against Covid-19, limiting their access to an array of places and services. FRANCE 24's Seema Gupta tells us more.
The Italian government, looking to contain a fresh surge in coronavirus cases, announced on Thursday that people would need to have proof of immunity to access an array of services and leisure activities. The Covid Green Pass is a digital or paper certificate that shows if someone has received at least one jab, has tested negative or has recently recovered from Covid-19.
Greece has lifted COVID rules for international and domestic flights while Italy has done away with its health pass.
