Scientists based in Stockholm say they have developed a new tool to target and kill mosquitoes. By isolating a molecule in the malaria parasite that only attracts mosquitoes, and mixing it in beetroot juice alongside toxins that kill the insects, the resulting mixture attracts the mosquitoes to feed and then kills them.
University of California scientists have recently developed a way to create malaria resistant mosquitoes by genetic modification, which is a significant step toward eliminating malaria in humans.
Scientists from the Abisko Research Station above the Arctic Circle in northern Sweden catch, weigh and measure birds and track their winter migration patterns, to see, among other things, what impact climate change and shifting weather patterns are having on their movements.
