Crede Bailey is the head of the White House security office. Now, Business Insider reports Bailey has lost part of his lower right leg and a big toe on his left foot, all amputated during an ongoing battle with COVID-19. Business Insider reports $35,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for Bailey's rehabilitation and 'staggering' medical bills. Bailey has been hospitalized with a severe case of coronavirus for three months but is reportedly recovering from the illness. Dozens of top administration officials and White House staffers have contracted COVID-19. President Donald Trump has consistently downplayed the threat. While Trump himself was hospitalized for several days after contracting the virus, he has told Americans not to 'be afraid of COVID.' He's also mocked those who wear face masks, and condemned aggressive state measures taken to slow the spread of the virus.
The Defense Business Board is a Pentagon advisory group that has recently undergone a purge at the hands of the Trump administration. Now, one of the survivors of that purge has resigned in protest. The Trump administration has also purged much of the Pentagon's civilian leadership, clearing the way for loyalists to fill top posts. All the vacancies created by the purge are to be filled by Trump loyalists.
President-elect Joe Biden secured the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency more than a week ago. However, many of the president's allies and appointees have remained silent while Trump continues to falsely claim that he won the race. General Services Administration chief Emily Murphy is in charge of acknowledging the election winner and beginning the formal transfer of power. Murphy has not issued the 'letter of ascertainment' that triggers the release of funds and facilities allowing the transfer to begin. Now, Business Insider reports Murphy is privately exploring her job option, based on a message of Murphy discussing employment opportunities in 2021. The apparent job search contradicts President Donald Trump's messaging that he won the election.
US stock markets opened with optimism Tuesday, as tens of millions of Americans head to the polls to decide who will be the next US president. According to Markets Insider, analysts say the upward bounce was a reaction to the end of the uncertainty surrounding who will get the top job. Fundstrat's Tom Lee said in a note to clients on Tuesday that the result would rally stocks, regardless of who won. If Democratic nominee Joe Biden wins, Lee expects a 10% rally. A surprise win for President Donald Trump could jolt stocks 15% to 17% higher. Asset manager BlackRock says that from ending political gridlock to producing sorely needed stimulus packages, the outcome could trigger an upturn.
Former CIA director John Brennan had a fraught relationship with US President Donald Trump, and now he remains one of Trump's sharpest critics. In his new memoir, 'Undaunted, Brennan told Business Insider what he feels is the biggest threat to the November election: President Trump himself. Brennan says the Trump administration and campaign's 'dishonesty' and disinformation is just as dangerous as foreign interference in the election. He added that Trump's refusal to acknowledge Russia's interference in the 2016 election would become one of the defining failures of his presidency. On the other hand, Brennan said Russia has gotten everything it could have hoped for from the Trump presidency.
