First-Time TV Director Diversity Significantly Improves, Study Finds

Description

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the number of minority TV directors have increased. A Directors Guild union report released on Wednesday shows that 25 percent of all first time hires in the 2016/17 shoot season were people of color. This is a ten percent increase. 32 percent were women, rising from 24 percent. The Guild attributes the increase diversity to more concentrated hiring efforts. They said, "When employers actually do the work of being inclusive, they find talented directors who overwhelmingly succeed in establishing longer-term careers.” Although the increase is an improvement, The Hollywood Reporter notes that white men still dominate the Director's Guild.
