Jailbirds Compete for Prison Crown in Bogota Beauty Pageant Behind Bars

Description

Inmates strutted down the runway at El Buen Pastor Prison's annual beauty pageant on Friday. Every year inmates swap their uniforms for glitzy costumes, to compete in several rounds. All nine cells, housing up to 250 women, nominate a representative to compete for the title. Inmates have a range of convictions from lesser criminal acts to drug dealing and murder.

  • Department of Justice Reveals FBI Wanted To Arrest Jeffrey Epstein In 2007

    Business Insider reports the Federal Bureau of Investigation had its eyes on Jeffrey Epstein long before his death by apparent suicide in a New York City jail cell. The Bureau had plans to arrest Epstein while he was judging a beauty pageant in the US Virgin Islands in 2007, a year before his plea deal. The DoJ's Office of Professional Responsibility released a summary on Thursday of the handling of Epstein's first federal investigation between 2006 and 2008. The full 347-page report detailed law enforcement's plan to take Epstein into custody as early as May of 2007. Alex Acosta, the former Labor Secretary under the Trump administration, was at the time the Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. He agreed to a plea deal to grant immunity from all federal criminal charges to Epstein, along with four named co-conspirators. Epstein owned an island in the US Virgin Islands that he used as his primary residence. Now a tourist destination, it's referred to as 'Pedophile Island.'

  • The First Black Woman To Represent Mississippi In The Miss USA Pageant Takes Home The Title

    The first Black woman to win the title of Miss Mississippi USA has been crowned Miss USA. Asya Branch, a student at the University of Mississippi and Booneville native, was crowned Miss USA on Monday. According to CNN, Branch will go on to represent the US in the Miss Universe pageant. The beauty pageant was originally scheduled for spring 2020 but, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Miss Universe Organization that runs Miss USA had to follow coronavirus protocols for the pageant. Contestants wore masks when they were offstage and audience members were told to wear masks indoors.
