All sorts of anniversaries shape the action at Techno Classica 2018 in Essen. The world’s most popular classic car exhibition is providing the meeting point for the international classic scene for the 30th time. From 21 to 25 March 2018, it offers the ideal frame to celebrate the landmark birthdays of some outstandingly fascinating models. At Essen, BMW Group Classic is looking back on the debut of the BMW M1 40 years ago. The mid-engined sports car with its timeless design and motor-sport history is one of the milestones in the company’s heritage. Ten years previously, the BMW 2800 CS had already ushered in the era of “large coupés”. These models were similarly the defining representative of their era both on the road and on the race track. BMW M1: Italian styling, Bavarian engine-building artistry. The common feature of the BMW M1 and the brand’s large coupés is their characteristic harmony combining aesthetics and sportiness. The body styling masterminded by Italian designer Giorgio Giugiaro gave the BMW M1 – only 1.14 metres in height – an Italian profile. The car’s inline six-cylinder engine was by contrast a masterpiece from Munich. Just like the vehicle concept, the drive technology was conceived to master the challenges on the race track and meet the requirements for being licensed as a road-going vehicle.
To round off the year, BMW is inviting international media to Sölden, to Innovation @Summit, on the Austrian glacier. Absolute highlight: in addition to the BMW 5 Series launched in October, innovative highlights in the areas of driverless@Developement, artificial intelligence and highly automated driving will be presented. During intensive test drives under winter conditions, the smart business sedan and Driverless @Developement vehicles can demonstrate their dynamic driving qualities several times over.

This centre of expertise for BMW X models also handles production of the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and BMW X7.The new BMW X6 celebrated its world premiere at the IAA 2019 in Frankfurt am Main.The new BMW X6 has grown by 26 millimetres in exterior length over the outgoing model (to 4,935 mm) and by 15 mm (to 2,004 mm) in width. It now stands 6 mm lower (at 1,696 mm) and combines dynamically stretched proportions with an extremely powerful appearance, which is enhanced by a wider front track (+44 mm to 1,684 mm). The car's wheelbase has increased by 42 mm to 2,975 millimetres, and the new model also has a lower centre of gravity than its predecessor, which helps to give the new BMW X6 its exceptional agility and handling poise.
Efficiency meets supremacy: With the market launch of the new BMW X5 xDrive45e, the drive portfolio of the Sporty Activity Vehicle (SAV) is now being expanded to include a plug-hybrid system. The second generation of the BMW X5 with electrified drive combines a model-specific in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the very latest BMW eDrive technology. Consistent progress in the area of plug-hybrid drive has produced a system output now increased to 290 kW/394 hp, a tangible enhancement in terms of electrically powered range and a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 levels as compared to the predecessor model.
