New Bribery Scandal Hits Brazil's Presidential Administration

According to the state-run news agency Agencia Brasil on Thursday, the country's President Michel Temer is officially under formal investigation by the country's highest court over a new bribery scandal. The situation accuses Temer of paying a former senate colleague hush money in exchange for his silence regarding a long-running corruption investigation.

The ban comes just weeks before Brazilians go to the polls for a vote in which he was considered a frontrunner despite being in prison. Six of seven justices from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal in Brasilia ruled that Lula was ineligible to run in October.
