  • US expands Belarus sanctions to 'impose costs' on regime: White House

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tells reporters the US and its allies have "taken a number of actions to impose costs on the Lukashenko regime in Belarus." The EU and the US have both targeted dozens of individuals and entities over a brutal crackdown on opposition since Lukashenko claimed victory in elections last August deemed fraudulent by the West. The 27-nation bloc and London added seven officials -- including the defence and transport ministers of Belarus -- to their sanctions blacklists for the grounding of a Ryanair jet last month. • Till Debt Do Us Part? How To Deal With Marrying Into Heavy Financial Baggage

Financial consultant Alli Williams was just 29 when she took on $154,000 of her husband's debt when they got hitched. Since then, they've paid off $50,000 of the debt, including an auto loan, some student loans, and a credit card. Not only that, but they also paid for a wedding, college tuition, and have saved for a baby and a house. According to Business Insider, Williams believes in prioritizing expenses, such as bonding activities and savings goals, but not in harsh deprivation. On a practical level, every paycheck is divvied up between bills, savings, and debt repayment. As for windfalls such as gifts, bonuses, or tax refunds, Williams sets allocation percentages without knowing the amount. For example, 50% will usually go toward debt, another 20% towards savings, and so on. When the money hits the bank account, she doesn't have to dither!

  • Even Financial Planners Say They Missed These Hidden Costs Of Parenthood

Financial planners do know quite a bit about money, generally speaking. But even they get surprised sometimes by unexpected costs. And according to Business Insider, financial planners say first-time parenthood is a minefield for such unexpected financial demands. To begin with, just giving birth is an expensive practice. For a woman with insurance, the average birth costs $10,808 without any complications. Once baby arrives, your food bill will go up. A lot. Formula is expensive, especially if baby has special dietary needs. Kiddie meals at restaurants aren't that cheap, either. And teen boys are walking refrigerator-inhalers! And public school isn't really free. School supplies, books, uniforms, sports equipment--the list is endless. Keeping kids engaged and learning after school isn't free, either. Lessons, scouting, clubs, summer camps, family vacations all cost a very pretty penny! Finally, medical care and daycare costs for children can drive parents to distraction. You've been warned!

  • Believe It Or Not, There Are Still Ways To Buy A House With No Money Down

Housing prices show no price of dropping, and overall, US wages have remained stagnant for years, if not decades. But according to Business Insider, there are still a few ways one can purchase a home without having to come up with a downpayment--if you're prepared to put in the work. Active and former members of the military can get a Veterans Affairs loan of up to $484,350 in 2019, often with a lower interest rate than a conventional mortgage. This loan requires no down payment and no mortgage insurance--but comes with strict guidelines. The buyer must also pay a 'funding fee,' too. USDA loans help people in rural areas buy homes with zero money down, provided you have a 'low-to-moderate' income and can pay a 1% funding fee. An FHA loan asks for a 3.5% downpayment. However, it requires a credit score of 580 or higher and a debt-to-income ratio below 43%.
