The Walking Dead Season 8 Could Break Ratings Record

Description

To post record numbers in terms of viewership in their upcoming 8th season, The Walking Dead would have to overcome the downward slope observed throughout its seventh season. Season 7 started with 17 million viewers -- a number just shy of the 17.3 million viewer record set two years prior. With action, explosions, and the fight being taken back to Negan in the Season 8 trailer, The Walking Dead is giving fans something to root for with its new season and, therefore, a whole new reason to continue watching or revisit a show they may have given up on.

16 US States Break Heartbreaking Record For COVID-19 Hospitalizations

16 states across the US broke a grim record on Friday, reporting their highest total of people hospitalized for COVID-19 since the pandemic began. Business Insider reports that since last fall, cases of COVID-19 have surged nationwide, particularly following the end of the holiday season. Alabama, Arkansas, Maryland, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia were hit hardest. Record hospitalizations were also seen this week in Arizona, California, Delaware, and Maine. The US Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for two COVID-19 vaccines at the end of 2020. However, a slow rollout means it will be many months before all who want a vaccination are immunized.

'The Walking Dead' Season 9 Premiere Episode Follows Source Material

According to Comicbook.com, "The Walking Dead followed its source material quite closely with the Season Nine premiere. The AMC show aired its Episode 9x01 on Sunday night, with Gregory having been killed in true-to-the-comics form and Maggie and Daryl not exactly seeing eye to eye with Rick Grimes." For the most part the episode only deviated from 'The Walking Dead' source material for the sake of drama. The show's writers do this so the show has a consistent it's tone and also so that it doesn't disappoint the fans.
