Dwayne Johnson Talks Ballers Season 3

Description

Dwayne Johnson shares an early look at Ballers season 3 as well as its premiere date. In an era of superhero movie and franchise filmmaking, it’s hard to pinpoint who are the true movie stars of our era. However, there’s one clear star who has been able to tap into the machismo of Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone and marry it with the humor and physicality of a professional wrestler. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the most popular film stars in modern times leading him to be coined The Hardest Working Man in Hollywood. You have to go no further than your local theater to see the reach that Johnson has. He currently has two movies in theaters, in which he shares top billing, with The Fate of the Furious and Baywatch. While next year he will be starring in the video game adaptation, Rampage, as well as the sequel to Jumani. However, Johnson’s influence has also reached beyond the silver screen. A couple of years ago, Johnson teamed with series creator Stephen Levinson and director Peter Berg (Patriot’s Day, Friday Night Lights) to take on the small screen, and the result was the hit show Ballers on HBO. Earlier today, Johnson took to Twitter to announce that Ballers will return for season 3 on July 23, 2017 on HBO. In addition to the announcement, he revealed the first trailer for the upcoming season that wastes no time in showing how the scope of the show has continued to expand. It opens with Johnson’s character Spencer Strasmore on a phone call with NBA superstar Steph Curry and his wife Ayesha, which is a clear signal that his business enterprise is on the upswing. It then goes on to highlight several returning actors, before showing the new locales and business deals that will certainly be fodder for storylines throughout then new season. Much like in real life, Johnson’s Spencer is looking to expand his brand globally and the third season of Ballers finds him faced with the challenges and perks that success has afforded the hard-working financial advisor. He is once again joined by actor Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine 2) as Joe Krutel, along with the supporting cast who play athletes and others affiliated with the sports industry, including John David Washington, Omar Miller, Donovan W. Carter, Jazmyn Simon, Troy Garity, and London Brown. It’s also clear that the showrunners and writers have drawn inspiration from news headlines from the real world. One of the moments in the trailer shows Strasmore making a declaration that he “wants to bring a football team to Las Vegas.” Fans who have been following the NFL recently, surely caught the reference to the real world story of the Oakland Raiders preparing to make a move to Las Vegas in the coming years. It seems that the upcoming season — which will be kicking into gear during NFL’s training camp at the time of the season premiere — will be have a little something for everyone. Ballers returns to HBO on Sunday July 23, 2017.
