DR Congo Film Wins Cannes Prize

A documentary about the back-breaking work of a young Congolese coal seller to feed his family has won the top prize at the Cannes film festival's Critics' Week. The film is called "Makala," directed by French director Emmanuel Gras. Makala means coal in Swahili. Critics' Week is one of Cannes' three main selections and showcases for directors' first and second films. The Critics' Week's Visionary Prize went to the Brazilian film" Gabriel and the Mountain" by Fellipe Gamarano Barbosa.
