China has expressed its opposition to unilateral sanctions against North Korea saying they could raise tension. As Ryan Brooks reports, it follows a decision by the United States to impose new curbs on the isolated country in retaliation for its uclear and rocket tests.
The United States voices alarm on new military cooperation between Russia and North Korea after the two countries' leaders met. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller tells reporters the news is "troubling." SOUNDBITE
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan says that North Korea will pay the "price" if it supplies Russia with arms, during a press briefing at the White House. SOUNDBITE
The US envoy to the United Nations says North Korea's barrage of missile tests made a mockery of the Security Council in veiled criticism of China and Russia. "These members have bent over backwards to justify the DPRK's repeated violations, and in turn they have enabled the DPRK and made a mockery of this council," Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield tells a Security Council session, using the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The United States is preparing new sanctions targeting the regime of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, in coordination with the European Union, over the "inhumane facilitation" of migrant flows on its border with Poland. SOUNDBITE
