Boris Johnson Defends Nobel-winning Scientist Who Made Sexist Comments

Description

The Mayor of London has thrown his voice into the ring to support the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who made widely-criticised remarks about women and science at a conference last week. Boris Johnson said Tim Hunt should be reinstated to the positions he resigned from at the Royal Society and University College London. Hunt, who was awarded a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2001, told a conference in South Korea that the "trouble with girls" is they fall in love with you, you fall in love with them and when they're criticized, they cry. Johnson said Hunt is a "great and good man", Johnson writes in his weekly column in The Daily Telegraph that Hunt made the comments as part of a "light-hearted, off-the-cuff speech."
