Migrants rescued by a ship chartered by NGOs disembark in Sicily and are taken care of by the authorities. The Ocean Viking, chartered by SOS Méditerranée in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), rescued 114 people on December 16, including minors and two newborns who were on an inflatable boat in distress in international waters off the coast of Libya. The German NGO Sea Watch rescued around 100 migrants off of Libya on Wednesday, saying the Libyan coastguard would have turned them back to shore if the humanitarian group had not intervened. IMAGES
