Jerusalem, May 1 (EFE / EPA) .- (Camera: Atef Safadi) The sacred fire illuminated the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem on Saturday, this time with the attendance of hundreds of local Christians who once again witnessed the "miracle" of this flagship ceremony of the Orthodox Holy Saturday, which unlike last year was celebrated without great restrictions.FOOTAGE OF THE CEREMONY IN JERUSALEM
Footage released Sunday shows the interior of the Tomb of Jesus Christ inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in East Jerusalem after preservation experts were called in to renovate the site for the first time since 1810. The marble slab stone which covered the tomb which many Christians believe contains the rock where Jesus laid before he was resurrected was pulled open to reveal the internal chamber not seen since the the last restoration work was done over 200 years ago. This is the first time the site has ever been filmed on video. The Aedicule surrounding the Tomb of Jesus In the centre of the church, built in the 19th century, is also in the process of being restored. Restoration costs are covered by the funds from the Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Armenian Christian churches, as well as from public and private funds.
