Women Applying For Tech Jobs Had Voice Altered To Sound Like Men

Description

The career building website, interviewing.io recently completed a study which modulated the voices of women to sound like men in order to interview for jobs in technical fields. The same was done for men, their voices were modulated in the online interviews to sound like women. The bias against women in any field is well known so it would stand to reason that the women who sounded like men did better. However, women who were modulated to sound like men did worse and the men did better. It wasn't exactly scientific because a person's pitch of their voice isn't the only indicator of gender but the results were still surprising.

How do you create a signature sound design for electric vehicles that is exclusive to the brand? Laurent Worms, the Audio Strategy Manager at Renault Group, tells us about the process for creating what is known as a VSP. And to explore the voices of the electric vehicles of the future, a visit to Renault Group’s long-time partner, Ircam (Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music), is a must!

The US posted a surprise decline in payrolls in December and all of the 140,000 jobs lost were held by women. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, the US economic recovery has been mostly stagnant. Small businesses nationwide have been hit particularly hard. Many are being forced to lay off staff or close altogether to curb the pandemic's spread.
