Coney Island Beach Closed Following Shark Sighting

Description

On Tuesday Parks officials closed the beach by the Coney Island pier after aquarium authorities reported sharks spotted just off shore for much of the morning. Officials did not specify what types of sharks had been sighted, but NYPD aviation and harbor units were scouring the area. New York Aquarium Director John Dohlin said that while it's "impossible" to identify the species based on images and video alone, they appear to be harmless basking sharks, which can grow up to more than 20 feet long but pose no real threat to humans.
