Pokemon Go Not Appearing At Pokemon World Championships

Description

e 2016 Pokemon World Championships are coming up, but don’t plan on Go-ing. The popularity of the Pokemon franchise has exploded thanks to the recent release of Pokemon Go, but the San Francisco event doesn’t doesn’t have any plans for events involving the game, instead choosing to focus on the usual mainstays, the Pokemon Trading Card Game and Pokemon video game competitions. With the lack of a real multiplayer option there’s not much they could do in the way of Pokemon Go events, even though you know the vast majority of people will be playing it anyway. But the organizers are obviously aware of the popularity, especially since they had to seal off the event for the first time. They state that “due to an unprecedented response from invited players planning to attend” they are closing the event to the general public, and only people with badges will be able to get in. Anyone wishing they could be there to see the matches can at least watch it online via the Twitch channel. On a funny note, you thought seeing massive swarms of people chase after rare Pokemon in Central Park was amazing? Let’s just wait and see what happens if one appears in a Pokemon World Championship… As for the event itself, it will feature hundreds of the best players competing for the title of World Champion, as well as a combined prize pool of more than $500,000 in scholarships and travel awards. These are serious competitors with serious stakes, and you’ll be able to watch the event from August 19-21.
